The difference between flame retardant cable and fire resistant cable

Flame-retardant cable refers to a cable that is burnt under the specified test conditions. After the test fire source is removed, the flame spreads only within a limited range, and the residual flame or residual burn can be extinguished by itself within a limited time. Fire-resistant cables can replace flame-retardant cables, but flame-retardant cables cannot replace fire-resistant cables. The difference between flame-retardant cable and fire-resistant cable is mainly in three aspects: basic principle, structure, and raw materials.

1. Basic principles

The basic principle of flame retardant of flame-retardant cables is to rely on the flame-retardant effect of halogen, and the basic principle of flame-retardant properties of halogen-free cables is to reduce the temperature of the water to extinguish the fire. Fire-resistant cables rely on the fire-resistant and high-temperature characteristics of the mica raw materials in the fire-resistant layer to ensure that the cable works normally even in a fire accident.

2. Structure

Flame-retardant materials are selected for the cable insulation layer; fire-resistant materials are selected for the sheath and outer sheath; flame-retardant materials are used for the wrapping and filling. Fire-resistant cables generally do not have flame-retardant materials, only refractory materials.

3. Raw materials

Flame-retardant cables generally add a fire-resistant layer between the electrical conductor and the cable sheath to form a cable that is both flame-retardant and fire-resistant. Fire-resistant cables generally have a fire-resistant layer. Generally, double-layer mica tapes are used to directly wrap the wires. It can withstand long-term burning, even if the polymer at the place where the flame is increased is damaged, it can ensure the normal operation of the route.
