The electrical property and applications of photovoltaic cables

The performance of photovoltaic cables is determined by the cable insulation and sheath materials. After the XLPE cable is irradiated by an irradiation accelerator, its molecular structure will change. Photovoltaic cables must be resistant to pressure, bending, and tension. If the cable sheath is not strong enough, the cable insulation layer will be severely damaged, which will affect the service life of the entire cable.


Electrical properties


1. DC resistance: The DC resistance of the conductive core of the finished cable is not more than 5.09Ω/km at 20℃.

2. Water immersion voltage test: The finished cable of 20m will not break down after being immersed in (20±5)℃ water for 1h after a 5min voltage test (AC 6.5kV or DC 15kV).

3. Long-term DC voltage resistance: the sample length is 5m, put into (85±2)℃ distilled water containing 3% sodium chloride (NaCl) for (240±2)h, the two ends are exposed to the water surface 30cm. Apply a DC 0.9kV voltage between the wire core and the water (the conductive wire core is connected to the positive electrode, and the water is connected to the negative electrode). After taking out the sample, perform a water immersion voltage test. The test voltage is AC 1kV, and no breakdown is required.

4. Insulation resistance: The insulation resistance of the finished cable is not less than 1014Ω•cm at 20℃, and the insulation resistance of the finished cable is not less than 1011Ω•cm at 90℃.

5. Sheath surface resistance: The surface resistance of the finished cable sheath should not be less than 109Ω.


Application


It is widely used in electrical installation wires for indoor and outdoor solar energy installations.

Features: low smoke and halogen-free, excellent cold resistance, UV resistance, ozone resistance, and weather resistance. Flame retardant, resistant to cut marks and penetration. The cable protection level is Ⅱ.

Ambient temperature: -40℃~+90℃;

The highest temperature of the conductor: 120℃ (allowing a short-circuit temperature of 200℃ within 5s);

Rated voltage: AC 0.6/1kV DC 1.8kV

Service life: 25 years
