Italian renewable energy market inspires new opportunities in the PV cable industry

The Italian renewable energy market is once again seeing exciting opportunities with the announcement of the launch of the 13th auction for renewable energy projects above 1 MW by the Italian energy agency Gestore dei Servizi Energetici (GSE). This tender not only signals continued support for renewable energy, but also emphasises the importance of inflation levels, which will have a direct impact on the future development of the PV cable industry.

In accordance with Legislative Decree 57/2023 on Emergency Measures in the Energy Sector, the tariff values for the 13th Renewable Energy Auction will be updated with reference to the National Consumer Price Index (NCPI) to reflect the cumulative average inflation for the period from August 2019 to September 2023. This decision is aimed at ensuring the viability of renewable energy projects and has fuelled new momentum in the PV cable industry.

PV cable manufacturers and suppliers will be able to pursue new business opportunities in this auction. With the growing demand for green power within Italy, the increase in renewable energy projects will create more demand for PV cables to connect and transport clean electricity.

In the recently concluded 12th renewable energy auction, the Italian government successfully allocated 48 MW of installed solar capacity and 10 MW of wind capacity. Encouragingly, developers have agreed to give discounts of between 2 and 2.1 per cent, which brought the minimum bid for the auction to €0.0636/kWh. This demonstrates the key role of PV cables in renewable energy projects to ensure the reliable transmission of electricity.

In the 11th market exercise, the GSE awarded 149 MW of solar power capacity at 16 sites and five wind power projects totalling 213.8 MW. Developers submitted bids granting discounts of between 2 and 2.8 per cent, which is further evidence of the competitiveness and sustainability of the Italian PV cable industry.

This series of auctions and development programmes has pushed Italy to the forefront of the clean energy sector. The PV cable industry not only plays a key role in renewable energy projects, but also on the path to meeting domestic clean energy needs. By continuing to attract investment, Italy will be able to realise a sustainable future while providing further business opportunities for the PV cable industry.

PV cable manufacturers and suppliers can look forward to discovering new opportunities in the Italian renewable energy market to meet the growing demand for clean energy.
