How to select the cross-sectional area of the welding cable

Two factors need to be considered when choosing the cross-section of the welding cable: current and voltage drop. When welding cables length is less than 20 m, the influence of the voltage drop is usually negligible. The cross-section of the welding cable only needs to be selected according to the welding cable ampacity. For YHH type cables, the current density is usually recommended to be 4-10AM when the length exceeds 20m. If thick cables are used, the current density needs to be reduced. If the length of the welded cable exceeds 50m, in addition to calculating the current, it must be inspected and calibrated according to the requirement that the cable voltage drop does not exceed 4V.For example, a welding cables with length less than 20m, the welding current of 300A is used and the load duration rate is 60%. The welding cables should be selected according to the current of 300AX60% = 300AX0.78 =234A.For a current density of 7A/mm2, the cable cross-section should be 234A/7A/mm2 = 33.4mm2. Then you can choose YHH-35 rubber flexible cable.

The YHH type welding cable is suitable for the secondary-side peak voltage AC 200v and pulsating DC 400v electric welding machine, working temperature60, and it is connected with the secondary-side wiring and welding clips. The cable specifications are as follows:
