How To Distinguish Automotive SXL And GXL Wire

What is GXL automotive wire?

GXL automotive wire is a single-conductor thin wall automotive primary wire. It also has cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulation, making it extremely flexible and incredibly viable in engine compartments. It has a recommended operating temperature range of -40°C to +125°C and is rated for 50V. It is used primarily in engine compartments and other automotive applications where high heat resistance is required but it is also suitable for applications with very low operating temperatures.

What is SXL automotive wire?

SXL wire is a type of automotive primary wire. It is made of a bare copper conductor and Cross-Linked Polyethylene (XLPE) insulation. This wire features a temperature rating of -51°C to 125°C and is rated up to 50V. SXL wire in sizes ranging from 8 AWG to 20 AWG. Since SXL wire can handle high heat, it is rated by SAE J-1128 to be used in engine compartments. It also meets the specifications to be used for Ford and Chrysler vehicles.

How to distinguish automotive SXL and GXL wire

The main difference between GXL wire and SXL wire is their insulation thickness. SXL automotive wire has thicker insulation than GXL wire, therefore it is more durable. However, GXL is more ideal for applications with limited space. TXL wire has the thinnest wall of all automotive primary wires. While some primary wire is rated for general applications. For example, GXL primary wire is mostly used in trucks and trailers. SXL primary wire is used in applications that have a need for high heat resistance and high-temperature performance. It is rated up to 125°C.

Kuka Cable provides a better selection of Automotive Primary Wires.  We also support a wide range of gauge sizes for certain types of automotive primary wire that include 22 AWG to 4/0 AWG. Primary Wire is the most commonly used general purpose wire for automotive wire connections and electrical projects. Primary Wire has a smooth surface, making it ideal for pulling through wire looms or other wiring management. Automotive Primary Wire is designed to endure the harsh conditions of a variety of automotive applications. Our Primary Wire is suitable for use in both commercial and recreational vehicles.
